2027 BYD Seal 06 Launches at ¥99,800 — Roof LiDAR and 240kW on a B-Class Sedan

BYD’s Ocean Network core sedan pairs DM-i hybrid and EV powertrains, mounts a roof LiDAR, and offers 120 kW or 240 kW on a car that starts under $14,000.

BYD put the 2027 Seal 06 on sale on August 11 at ¥99,900 (about $13,780) to start, across 12 variants.

The Ocean Network’s core B-class sedan now pairs DM-i plug-in hybrid and EV powertrains and mounts a LiDAR on the roof.

A single motor in 120 kW or 240 kW tunes marks a meaningful step up from the outgoing car.

What changed for 2027

BYD positions the new Seal 06 as a “fully-loaded B-class family sedan.” The body grows about 150 mm versus the current model, stretching to roughly 4,870 mm, which is the kind of stretch that turns a tidy sedan into a proper trunk-and-rear-seat proposition.

The bigger news is up top: a roof-mounted LiDAR that BYD says sharpens the driver-assist envelope, paired with the company’s God’s Eye B intelligent-driving stack.

The Seal 06 is not BYD’s only B-class sedan on sale this month. Two days after this August 11 launch, on August 13, the brand followed with the BYD Qin MAX — another sedan opening at ¥99,900, this one from the Dynasty Network. The two cars bracket BYD’s strategy: the Seal 06 courts younger buyers with coupe styling and roof LiDAR, while the Qin MAX targets families with a conventional three-box body and a 900V flash-charging hook. Together they tighten BYD’s grip on the segment the incumbents thought was theirs to lose. See our full BYD Qin MAX launch coverage for the other half of that one-two punch.

Powertrain and output

Both the hybrid and electric versions use a single motor with two output levels — 120 kW for the entry tune and 240 kW for the higher one, both up on the car it replaces — backed by LFP (Blade) battery packs. BYD is leaning on the dual powertrain to cover buyers who can charge at home and those who cannot, without forcing a second model.

The electric Seal 06 is built on BYD’s flash-charging platform and uses the second-generation Blade Battery — the same battery-and-charging combination driving the brand’s megawatt charging push.

Trim lineup and pricing

All 12 variants went on sale on August 11. The DM-i hybrid opens at ¥99,900 (about $13,780); the EV starts at ¥109,900 (about $15,160). The numbering in each name is the CLTC range in kilometers.

All figures are China-market manufacturer guide prices (MSRP) from the August 11 launch. They exclude destination-market charges — import duties, local VAT or sales tax, registration, and any EV incentives or tariffs a country applies. Outside China, treat these as a reference only; local policy sets the real number.

Why it matters

The Seal 06 sits in the most contested slice of the Chinese market: the mainstream family sedan where price, space, and now driver-assist hardware all have to clear the bar. Putting LiDAR on a car that starts under ¥100,000 is the same play BYD has run across its lineup — pull flagship features down the price ladder until rivals’ value equations break.

It also lands as BYD pushes its intelligent-driving credentials hard. With China’s first mandatory L2 driver-assist standard (GB 47955—2026) approved in mid-2026 and taking effect in January 2027 — and L3/L4 rules following in July — a roof LiDAR on a volume sedan is as much a compliance and trust signal as a spec-sheet line.

The catch

The honest footnote: BYD has not yet detailed range, exact dimensions, or the full assist-feature list for every trim, and “12 variants” means the value question comes down to which of those twelve you actually want. The ¥99,800 opening price is the headline; the trim that delivers the 240 kW motor and full LiDAR suite will sit well above it.

Author’s Take

The Seal 06 is the unglamorous core of BYD’s volume machine — and that’s exactly why it matters. A B-class sedan with roof LiDAR and a 240 kW option at this price is the clearest proof that BYD’s tech cascade is now a flood: yesterday’s flagship sensor is today’s mainstream option box. Western sedans in this bracket should be watching their calendars, not their spec sheets.
