BYD Qin Max Interior Revealed. BYD’s Best-Selling Sedan Lineup Needs This to Work.

The Big Picture

  • BYD Qin Max interior unveiled by BYD sales head Lu Tian on Weibo. “Dawn Purple” low-saturation color, floating center display, column-mounted gear selector, 2-spoke wheel, piano-black trim.
  • Qin Max is the third model in the Qin family — positioned above the Qin L. 4,866mm long, 2,820mm wheelbase. BEV: 322 hp / PHEV: 1.5L + 175 kW motor. Flash charging. Rumored launch August 13.
  • Why this matters: Qin sales crashed 66% YoY in June (14,900 units). H1 sales: 149,174 (-45.6%). The Qin Max is not just a new trim — it’s BYD’s attempt to reverse the decline of its bestselling nameplate.

1. Qin Max Interior: Young Buyers, Dawn Purple, Column Shifter

BYD Qin Max is being pitched as “a car that is the top choice for young people.” Lu Tian, the Dynasty lineup’s sales chief, posted the interior images on Weibo with language that’s unusually lifestyle-oriented for BYD: “Not only fun to drive, comfortable to sit in and convenient to use, but also look good. This low-saturation purple is uplifting, and I hope you like it.” A decision-maker at BYD just used “I hope you like it” in a product announcement. For a company whose marketing has historically been data sheets and price charts, this is a deliberate tonal shift.

The interior itself is clean and minimalist: a floating center display, column-mounted gear selector, 2-spoke multifunction steering wheel, extensive piano-black trim, and only a small number of physical buttons on the center console. Threaded mounting points near the doors allow accessories like action cameras — a detail that reinforces the youth positioning. The exterior was revealed on July 20 in a pale pink color. The interior today in Dawn Purple. Two colorways, two reveals, one week apart. BYD is building anticipation the way it builds spec sheets — methodically.

The mechanicals are standard BYD: the BEV version offers 240 kW (322 hp) or 120 kW motor options. The PHEV pairs a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine (74 kW) with a 175 kW electric motor. Flash charging is supported — a technology BYD has been rolling out across its lineup since the Seal 08 launch. The dimensions put the Qin Max squarely in mid-size territory: 4,866mm long, 1,880mm wide, 1,495mm tall, with a 2,820mm wheelbase. That’s 36mm longer and 30mm wider in wheelbase than the Qin L. The extra space is targeted at the family car segment that the aging Qin Plus was losing.

The Qin Max is 36 mm longer and has a 30 mm longer wheelbase than the Qin L — giving it the rear-seat space that matters for the family-car segment. The BEV motor options (240 kW or 120 kW) cover both performance and efficiency trims. The PHEV’s 1.5L naturally aspirated engine plus 175 kW motor is BYD’s standard plug-in hybrid setup, refined over millions of units. Flash charging — BYD’s next-generation fast-charging technology — is the key differentiator. It’s the same system rolling out on the Seal 08 and Da Han, now arriving in the volume segment.

3. The Real Reason BYD Needs This

The Qin is not a niche product. It’s BYD’s highest-volume nameplate — 661,090 units in 2025, one of the best-selling model lines in the world. In June 2026, it sold 14,900 units — down 66.17% year-on-year. H1 sales: 149,174, down 45.62%. The Qin Plus and Qin L are aging in a market that launches 3.6 new models per day. The Qin Max is the answer: a larger, flash-charging sedan aimed at a younger demographic that the existing Qin lineup was losing.

BYD has been systematically refreshing its sedan portfolio from the top down. The Da Han flagship sits at the top, targeting the S-Class segment. The Seal 08 covers the $30,000 performance-sedan slot. The Qin Max sits in the middle — the volume sweet spot where most Chinese families buy their first or second car. If the Qin Max can recapture the volume that the Qin Plus and Qin L are losing, the Qin lineup stabilizes at roughly 30,000-40,000 units per month across three models. If it can’t, BYD’s biggest volume driver becomes a structural vulnerability — at a time when the company’s overseas expansion depends on domestic margins to fund global growth.

The Qin Max is also a test of whether BYD can sell cars to people under 35 the way it sells to people over 35. The current Qin buyer is pragmatic — looking for range, reliability, and the lowest price per kilometer. The Qin Max buyer, if BYD’s marketing is honest, wants to look good in the car, not just get from A to B. The Dawn Purple interior, the action-cam mounts, the lifestyle language from Lu Tian — these are not features for a pragmatic buyer. They’re features for someone who cares what the interior looks like in photos.

Author’s TakeBYD doesn’t usually talk about its cars this way. “Low-saturation purple is uplifting” is not the language of a company that sells on price-performance ratios. It’s the language of a company that’s realized its bestselling sedan lineup needs to be cool again — not just cheap.

The Qin brand has the nameplate recognition of a Toyota Corolla with the brand heat of a last-generation product. Millions of Chinese families have owned a Qin. But ownership satisfaction is not the same as aspiration. BYD needs aspiration — not to sell cars to people who already know BYD, but to sell to people who are comparing a Qin to a Xiaomi SU7 or a Geely Galaxy and deciding based on what looks better in the parking lot, not what looks better on the spec sheet. The Qin Max interior reveal is BYD’s answer to that question. Purple cabin. Column shifter. Action-cam mounts. The message is: this isn’t your parents’ Qin.

The Bottom Line

BYD Qin Max interior: Dawn Purple cabin, flash charging, column shifter, positioning above the Qin L. Rumored launch August 13. The Qin lineup is down 66% in June. The Qin Max is not a refresh. It’s a rescue mission for BYD’s most important volume nameplate.
